Hollow Metal Doors & Locksmith Service

Installation, repair, and locksmith services for hollow metal commercial door systems across MD, DC & Northern VA. One crew for the door, the frame, and the hardware that locks it.

Why do commercial buildings use hollow metal doors?

Because they take punishment. Hollow metal doors are steel skinned doors in steel frames, and they hold up where wood splits and aluminum dents: loading docks, stairwells, utility rooms, back of house corridors, and any entrance that sees carts, hand trucks, and weather every day. When a building needs a door that closes, latches, and locks the same way in year ten as it did on day one, hollow metal is usually the answer.

A&S Door LLC is a family owned commercial door company, and hollow metal systems are core work for us. We install new doors and frames, repair existing ones, and handle the locksmith side of the job in the same visit, with same day or 24 to 48 hour turnaround across MD, DC & Northern VA.

  • New hollow metal door and frame installation

  • Ongoing maintenance so small problems stay small

Should I repair my hollow metal door or replace it?

Repair it if the door and frame are still sound. Most of what makes a steel door misbehave is hardware: worn hinges let the door sag and drag, a tired closer slams it or leaves it hanging open, and a misaligned strike keeps the latch from catching. All of that is fixable in place, and fixing it costs far less than a new opening.

Replace it when the steel itself has failed. Rust that has eaten through the skin, a door bent badly enough that it no longer sits flat in the frame, or a frame ripped loose from the wall usually means the opening needs to start over. When that is the verdict, we handle the whole changeover ourselves, including controlled demolition of the old frame and haul away of the old door and debris, so you are not coordinating three contractors for one doorway.

Either way, the answer starts with a straight assessment and a free quote, not a sales pitch. Competitive pricing is one of the things we are known for.

The locksmith side: hardware that actually secures the building

A commercial door is only as good as the hardware that locks it. That is why locksmith service is built into this offering rather than left to a second vendor. We install and service locksets, deadbolts, and exit hardware on hollow metal openings, and because we also work on emergency door repair, we see every way this hardware fails: keys that turn but do not throw the bolt, latches chewed up by a misaligned strike, panic bars that stick halfway. Catching those early is cheaper than meeting them at midnight.

If your building uses electrified hardware or access control at these openings, our electrical work covers that side too.

Hollow metal door questions, answered

Straight answers to what building owners and managers ask us most.

What is a hollow metal door?

A hollow metal door is a commercial door built from steel sheets wrapped around an internal core, hung in a steel frame. Despite the name, the door is not empty inside. The core gives it rigidity and insulation while the steel skin takes the daily abuse of carts, deliveries, weather, and heavy traffic. They are the standard choice for back doors, stairwells, mechanical rooms, and service entrances because they outlast wood and aluminum in those roles.

Can a bent or rusted hollow metal door be repaired?

Often, yes. Hinges, closers, latches, and locksets can be replaced without touching the door itself, and a frame that has shifted can frequently be adjusted or repaired in place. Once the door skin is badly rusted through or the frame is torn from the wall, replacement is usually the more economical path. We will tell you plainly which situation you have when we look at it.

Do you handle the lock hardware too, or just the door?

Both. Locksmith work is part of this service, so the same crew that hangs or repairs the door can install and service the lockset, deadbolt, panic hardware, and related door hardware. You do not need to schedule a separate locksmith after the door work is done.

How fast can you get to a commercial door that will not lock?

Fast turnaround is what we are set up for. We offer same day or 24 to 48 hour turnaround across MD, DC and Northern VA, and a door that will not secure your building is exactly the kind of call we prioritize. Call (215) 971-4256 and tell us what the door is doing.
